About the artist:
"I learned early on that clay is temperamental. It can take a long time to realize you have control it or it will control you. But the second that wobbly hunk of clay was suddenly spinning effortlessly beneath my hands I felt a calmness that still comes to me when a piece is centered. That calmness can quickly leave again because of the process to get the end result. Clay shrinks when it dries and again when it's fired. Glazes are rarely dependable. And the end result is often not reliable. Yet the process also allows tremendous freedom of variety and expression. My work is greatly influenced by my travels. I love picking up pieces of glass on foreign beaches or in dusty outdoor markets. "
